The amazing work of Larry Kingry
Larry Kingry, a long time Alaskan feels the guiding spirit feels the guiding spirit inside his studio beside little survivor creek overlooking potter marsh refuge near Anchorage. Manifesting wood creations for over 45 years his current passion is for creating turned k'ta'baqil'a (Dena'in Athabascan for bowl like forms) from mostly green wood straight from the tree without previous processing. "I know the true artist is far superior to me, however to be fully enjoyed the beauty must be revealed from the inner structures. This is my goal and I take great pains to select and produce shapes that bring out this outstanding beauty. Even the final form is out of my control as the ultimate shape can change as the piece continues to age. I believe I am just an instrument in the hands of my creator who allows me to reveal his creations to others."
