Dredging just after spring ice breakup
Its been a few years since I wrote about our mining adventures.  With the advent of Facebook & such most of our mining updates were posted to friends as soon as we returned to town from a trip to the mine.  So much has happened since my last article was written in 2009, seems the years have just flown by.  Sarah had a shoulder injury while working at her nursing job that has kept her from being able to get back to the mine.  As I wrote about in our history, this is part of our journey in owning Northern Made Creations.

We started dredging some good ground in the canyon area of our claims & came up with some pretty good color.

This was great except that access to the area is very difficult, I raft in with fuel & equipment.  This is fine when your heading down river, however it also means I have to hike back out, packing the raft as well.

I was truly blessed to be able to spend some time prospecting with my dad a in the last couple years.  There are other treasures to be found mining in Alaska.  During his trip out we found an amazing Ammonite fossil.  Very cool experience

We took it to the lapidary shop in Anchorage and had them split it in two... Pretty awesome.

The best part of the whole experience was just being able to spend time with Dad, after all he's the one that gave me the gold bug!

My youngest daughter has gotten old enough to go mining with me, and I love being able to share the experience with her.

Every once in a while its good to just relax and do some fishing, or cook some mallows on the campfire.  Lots of great memories, and some good gold too!
